Snipers Sign 2 Defenseman

ast season was one for the record books for the Snipers on setting new franchise records in multiple categories. Head Coach Aaron Davis is returning for his second season to coach the team; after leading the Snipers to a Franchise best with 21 wins last year, Davis is looking to continue to build from there. After losing veterans like Luke Grignano, Aaron Krominga, and Elliot Langford on the defensive side (and still waiting to see if other Defenseman like Daniel Skinner, Mike Misantonis, and Pavol Kotzman will be making any Tier II programs for the upcoming season), Davis has been looking for Defenseman. Today, Coach Davis has announced the signing of Defensemen Evgeni Nikolaev and Eriks Mednis.

Evgeni played in the United States last season for the Cape Cod Islanders of the Northern States Hockey League. The Chelyabinsk, Russia native played in 38 games for the Islanders last season. He scored just 4 points, all being assists, while recording only 26 penalty minutes. “He is a smart, two-way Defenseman that has good skating ability,” said Davis. Evgeni becomes the first Defenseman signed, and should bring some experience to some of the younger kids for this upcoming season.

The second signing is Eriks Mednis, a large Defenseman out of Riga, Latvia. Standing 6’4 and 180 lbs., Erik will bring great size and a physical aspect that could really help the team keep the puck out of the net and out of the zone. Erik previously played for HS Prizma/Pardaugava in the Latvian U20 league. Eriks scored one goal and had five assists for 6 points in 20 games for the club last season, and had 16 penalty minutes. Erik is more of a defensive player, but the good thing about Davis signing both Defensemen is that they play in a division where good defense and goal tending can take you really far.

It is safe to say that Davis will be ready with his team for the upcoming season. The Snipers family wants to welcome Eriks and Evgeni to the program. Check back soon for more Snipers updates.
